“Position 14.8” means page two, where almost nobody looks.

Your spot in the list, averaged over everyone who searched. Why 14.8 is both bad news and the cheapest thing on your site to fix.

Written by Footprnt, from Google's own definitions

The same row, two waysposition 14.8You usually sit fifteenth: page two. Fewer than one person in a hundred scrolls that far.

Position is where your page sits in the list of results. Spot one is the top of page one. Spot ten is the bottom of it. Spot eleven is the top of page two, which is a very different place: most people never get there.

The decimal is because it is an average. Some days, some people, some places, your page was ninth; others, nineteenth. Averaged over a month it comes out at 14.8.

Why page two is invisible

Fewer than one person in a hundred clicks through to page two. A page sitting fifteenth can be seen by thousands of people a month and visited by a handful. It is not that the page is bad. It is that nobody scrolls.

Why it is the cheapest fix you have

Spots four to twenty are the ones Google is undecided about. The page already ranks; Google already considers it an answer. Moving from fifteenth to eighth is usually three things. A better title, a section that answers the question people actually type, and a link from a page of yours that Google trusts. Footprnt calls this striking distance. Those pages cost the least to climb, so they are the ones to start with.
