Do I need a blog to show up on Google?
No. You need pages that answer what people type. Sometimes those are posts. Often they are the pages you already have, with better titles.

Google does not reward a blog. It rewards a page that answers a question somebody typed, and it does not care what folder the page sits in. A product page, a help page or a plain page can rank as well as a post.
When a blog helps
When people ask questions your existing pages do not answer. Someone searching how to clean a wool jumper will not land on your jumper page. A short post that answers it can, and can point them to the jumper.
When it does not
When the posts answer nothing anybody types. A post about your office move, or your view on the industry, earns no visits from Google. It is not wrong to write; it is just not this.
What to do instead, first
Look at the searches that already show your site. Most sites get shown for questions they half answer. Give those pages a title that says the question and a paragraph that answers it. That is a week's worth of posts, done in an afternoon.
Footprnt draws every page of your site, posts or not, with the searches that reach each one. You can see which questions you already half answer.
